Major extension to Vets4Pets surgery progressing well in Birstall, Leeds.

The Brief.

NWD Architects were approached to support the major extension of the existing Vets4Pets surgery within the busy retail Pets at Home unit in Birstall, Leeds. We have also supported the company’s programmed development of mezzanine extensions to accommodate the ongoing expansion of clinical areas.

The existing surgery required an extensive refit along with designed-for-purpose animal wards, surgical rooms and a spacious Prep area to support the increased footprint.

NWD’s Approach.

NWD Architects Ltd were responsible for the production of the new design concept along with detailed design for the enhanced Prep area. This involved a detailed drawing package, site visits and in-depth discussions with the practice owners, Keith & Julie Leonard.

The surgery is open 24 hours, so this provided a unique aspect to the design. It was also important to ensure that the rooms and corridors were spacious to increase the overall feeling of space. The practice had a clear vision of adding to the existing surgical rooms to take their practice to the next level, whilst doubling their consulting capacity of the clinic.

The Outcome.

As the programme of works is nearing an end, the practice is revealing itself to be more and more well-appointed. The in-patient facilities from the ‘best-in-class’ Emergency Critical Care Ward to the large, impressive Operating theatres all point towards the practice easily maintaining its title of Best Veterinary practice in West Yorkshire.

NWD Architects liaised with all consultants involved, including Planning, Building Control, Structural engineers, Interior Designers, contractors and suppliers to maintain excellent standards throughout the programme.
