Machynlleth Co-op
The brief
The existing Co-op supermarket in this Welsh market town was well used and nearing the end of its design life. In order to enhance customer choice and upgrade the building, permission was sought to extend both the store and the surrounding car park area.
NWD's approach
The building sits within a rather attractive conservation area and so careful attention was paid to the design of the extension to match the appearance of buildings formerly occupying the site.
The outcome
At the rear of the building the enlarged car park now faces a new entrance with a distinctive tower that mirrors the existing one on the High Street.
