Repurposing a previously developed site in Peterborough.
The Brief.
The site sits within a conservation area, therefore a sensitive design approach was taken. Having assessed the heritage value of the original buildings on site and the many ad hoc extensions, we decided their demolition would improve the character of the area. This would allow the redevelopment of the site into three new family homes that weave back into the urban fabric of this Conservation Area.
NWD's Approach.
Outcome.
A pair of new semi-detached houses help anchor the site on this prominent junction. The design approach will visually improve the site, creating a positive impact on the conservation area. We have respected the local architectural language and designed the pair of semi-detached dwellings ensuring the style, form and scale of the existing semi-detached properties in the local conservation area is respected. Sitting alongside the detached homes is a more modern smaller detached home. The modern dwelling provides a link between the heritage properties to one side and the newer commercial development to the North East of the site.
